We have recently expanded our horizon to mobile technologies by developing a challenging prototype for Android on our client’s request. Although Android is a latest technology, our Research and Development team mastered and delivered its solution in a short span of time.

The prototype is capable of handling SMS and performs different control functions on a mobile platform running Android. The key feature of this prototype is its complete transparency from the end user.

Android is a feature rich operating system, including support for a built-in browser, 2D and 3D graphics, SQLite database, video and audio playback, GSM, Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G wireless, camera, compass, GPS, and accelerometer (if the appropriate hardware is included in the phone). There is also a set of optional APIs which include mapping APIs and peer to peer messaging between phones. Core applications; mail, SMS, calendar, browser, contacts, and maps are included with the OS.

In the era of ubiquitous and pervasive computing, Android can provide businesses a necessary edge over others by providing smart location based services. The effective combination of location and communication, it opens doors for many innovative ideas for the businesses to hit their niche market. With the first Android based G1 phone it has started capturing the market previously dominated by Symbian or Windows Mobile OS.
